چکیده

This paper addresses the issue of optimal deconvolution density estimation on the 2-sphere. Indeed, by using the transitive group action of the rotation matrices on the 2-dimensional unit sphere, rotational errors can be introduced analogous to the Euclidean case. The resulting density turns out to be convolution in the Lie group sense and so the statistical problem is to recover the true underlying density. This recovery can be done by deconvolution; however, as in the Euclidean case, the difficulty of the deconvolution turns out to depend on the spectral properties of the rotational error distribution. This therefore leads us to define smooth and supersmooth classes and optimal rates of convergence are obtained for these smoothness classes. 2001 Academic Press AMS 1991 subject classifications: 62G05; 58G25.

Determination of Fiber Direction in High Angular Resolution Diffusion Images using Spherical Harmonics Functions and Wiener Filter

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) MRI is a noninvasive imaging method of the cerebral tissues whose fibers directions are not evaluated correctly in the regions of the crossing fibers. For the same reason the high angular resolution diffusion images (HARDI) are used for estimation of the fiber direction in each voxel. One of the main methods to specify the direction of fibers is usage of the spher...

A pitfall in the reconstruction of fibre ODFs using spherical deconvolution of diffusion MRI data

Diffusion weighted (DW) MRI facilitates non-invasive quantification of tissue microstructure and, in combination with appropriate signal processing, three-dimensional estimates of fibrous orientation. In recent years, attention has shifted from the diffusion tensor model, which assumes a unimodal Gaussian diffusion displacement profile to recover fibre orientation (with various well-documented ...

Mesh-based spherical deconvolution: A flexible approach to reconstruction of non-negative fiber orientation distributions

Diffusion-weighted MRI has enabled the imaging of white matter architecture in vivo. Fiber orientations have classically been assumed to lie along the major eigenvector of the diffusion tensor, but this approach has well-characterized shortcomings in voxels containing multiple fiber populations. Recently proposed methods for recovery of fiber orientation via spherical deconvolution utilize a sp...

Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) is a non-invasive method that allows connectivity mapping of the brain. However, despite major advances in this field, accurate inference of these patterns and its applicability within a clinical context is still in its early stages. This thesis describes a conceptually novel method for reconstructing neuronal pathways inside the brain from diffusion-...

Dispersion, aberration and deconvolution in multi-wavelength fluorescence images.

The wavelength dependence of the incoherent point spread function in a wide-field microscope was investigated experimentally. Dispersion in the sample and optics can lead to significant changes in the point spread function as wavelength is varied over the range commonly used in fluorescence microscopy. For a given sample, optical conditions can generally be optimized to produce a point spread f...
